Last night brought a close to my first class series, “The Art of Tablescaping – Buffet Styling” through Longview Community College. It was a night I simultaneously dreaded and happily anticipated. All told, I think it went pretty well for my first time at bat, and I’m looking forward to starting the second class series,
“The Art of Tablescaping – Sizzlin’ Summer Soirées” on June 12, 2012.

To cap this first class series off, everyone grabbed a little snack to munch on while enjoying a slide show of the wonderful buffet tablescapes created by each student. (Cobalt blue martini glasses from Pier 1.) They really did a good job, and their work really showed they had been paying attention! The evening ended with a sit-down awards dinner at a colorful Springtime table specially prepared for these fine ladies. Sure, a buffet meal would have been apropos, but I wanted them to relax after all the hard work and effort they put into their individual tables.
It may have been raining cats and dogs outside, but inside was all about sunshine and blue sky! The Tuscan-style table was decked out in bright cobalt blue and yellow. This would also be a wonderful tablescape for a Spring wedding rehearsal dinner or birthday, and would work just as well outdoors as inside!
Full-length white linens provided a blank slate for the brilliant colors on top. A lemon yellow cotton placemat from Bed Bath & Beyond, turned to drop vertically off the side of the table, hosted a white ceramic charger (Old Time Pottery) and beautiful “Mirandela” dinner plates from Pier 1, topped off with a white-rimmed yellow salad plate from Old Time Pottery. Bright yellow cotton napkins from Bed Bath & Beyond are cinched at the waist with bold cobalt blue napkin rings (Tuesday Morning) that look very much like jewelry. The flatware is Hampton Silversmith’s “Patriot” in the mirrored finish.
The cobalt blue stemware is from Pier 1.
Scoops of whipped butter in miniature silver Revere bowls and tiny salt and pepper shakers fill in gaps down the table center.
Heavy cobalt blue votive holders bring both color and light to the table’s surface.
Aside from daisies, I just can’t think of a happier flower than the daffodil! Three chunky cobalt blue vases filled with the sunshiny yellow flowers are flanked by silver Revere candlesticks.
Congratulations to the first Art of Tablescaping “graduating class”!!! Desta, Denise, Linda S. 1, Linda S. 2, Marie, Natalie, and Ty…you ladies did a fantastic job! Thank you for making it fun for me, and I hope you have acquired some techniques, skills and knowledge that you can carry with you for a lifetime of buffet-style tablescaping!

This table is stunning! I love cobalt and yellow together, and you do it beautifully! The centerpieces just pop!

I love, love, love this table as it features some of my favorite colors and textures. Anything with a hint of Tuscany sends my heart reeling. As for your class, I am so proud of you for having put together something that most ladies, and maybe even some men, would so enjoy. Your first session may have ended but my money is on those who return and bring a friend. You can bet I’d be in line to sign up.

Those plates are beautiful!!! I’ve seen those glasses for years at Pier One. They look so pretty on your table!! Houston should have some places to look! If you were coming to San Antonio, I’d take you to El Mercado myself!!

I just love the bright yellow and cobalt blue together…it does put you in a happy mood. I am so glad that you have enjoyed teaching your classes. You had me at the first picture (I LOVE Veggie Straws tee hee). Beautiful country french inspired tablescape. I have a fondness for colbalt blues and these are paired with a lovely yellow and white which just brings a crisp freshness to any decor! Thank you for sharing!

What a beautifully dramatic table this is! I have always admired those plates from Pier 1! I love all shades of blue, but that cobalt paired with yellow is amazing! LOVE the draped linens at each place setting, too! Overall, spectacular!!!

Love it!! I love blue and yellow together, but the repetition of the centerpice across the table makes such an impact. To have 3 or more of everything is tough to do, but you’ve got them and use them to full advantage. Now, are you going to tell us you cooked too??!! Hello, my friend, I finally found (took) some time to visit, I looked at this post earlier, but didn’t have time to comment. But I wanted to come back and take a closer look–this setting, no other way to say it than it takes my breath away. The lemon and the cobalt blue, with the daffodils, oooh, aaaah, just beautiful. The variations in height with the candles, it is so elegant. And the beautiful china just ties it all together. I bet your students were thrilled!! Hope you are feeling good and enjoying spring!! Hi Alycia, I always get a chuckle from your comments to me! So cute! I have a hard time figuring out how to reply – can’t seem to get which is the latest one. My eye caught this gorgeous yellow daffodil thumbnail and it’s from 2012. Wow! Love it all! I haven’t seen those mini silver Revere bowls for balls of butter, really neat!
