Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Just as suddenly as I reappeared last week, I will disappear again after this week as I prepare to go under the knife on Friday. I am both terrified and relieved to have it finally happening. My shoulders have been the source of much pain and anguish for a long time now, and I’m ready to get the first one fixed. My understanding is that using my right arm will be all but impossible for at least 2 months, so I’ll be on the computer only when in the mood to hunt & peck with my left hand. I hope that you will once again forgive my spotty appearances as I go about the business of physical therapy on my way to recovery. I have several tablescapes that I created back in early Spring (including this one) in anticipation of this down time, and I will hopefully be able to post those before summer’s fast-approaching end.

Yes, I know the Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme has been done and done and done again. I’m gonna take a pass at it, too, just for kicks. OK? I think it would make a really fun theme for a bridal shower, bridal luncheon, special ladies brunch, birthday brunch (especially a milestone birthday!), or even a mid-morning engagement party!

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's place settingI kept each place setting sleek and simple. The white chargers are rimmed in rhinestones. (I wonder if they come with real diamonds at Tiffany’s? 😉 ) The china is very simply adorned Noritake “Spectrum”.

I included an image of a tiara to mimic the one worn by Holly Golightly in this famous poster. Also notice the print on the menu. I chose two print fonts that closely match those on the poster!

(Get it? Royal Danish flatware? As in Holly Golightly eating a Danish pastry for her breakfast at Tiffany’s??? 🙂 ) A sleek black napkin is folded twice lengthwise and tucked around the charger beneath the dinner plate.

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Hand collage IIThe centerpiece is created using two identical black rectangular mirrors with tiers of rhinestones from Hobby Lobby. (Also used HERE in the post “Happy Birthday, Barf!”) Just as a jewelry store like Tiffany’s might, I used these black hand display pieces (Michael’s) holding jewelry from my own collection including a Tiffany bracelet and necklace. (TIP: If you’re a bride who is gifting her bridesmaids with a little something-something from Tiffany’s to wear in the wedding, this would be a fun way to display it during brunch and then let them know they can pick theirs off the display afterwards!)

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Necklace collageI created a fun centerpiece using a bust form for a Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon a couple of years ago. This is the same basic concept, but a little more playful. The floral head here has chunky bling shooting out of it and boasts another tiara. I created a replica of Holly’s famous pearl necklace using faux pearl strands from Hobby Lobby. I simply quadrupled them and tied them with a gossamer ribbon at the nape of the neck. I then added a huge brooch to the front of the necklace. Not exactly like Holly’s, but a fun play on it!

Hanging in the window are beautiful bling-laden candlelight chandeliers. The play on that here is this 5-lite silver candelabra with bling bobeches.

As a parting gift, I leave you with my original idea for the bust form. It’s silly, really, but I created it in a weak moment and thought you might get a good laugh out of it.

  6. Gorgeous and classic! I’m a pearl girl, but do love me some bling. And agreed, what’s not to love when there’s a Tiffany blue box? I’m thinking that along with the macrons, another of those little blue boxes would definitely speed your recovery. Ramon…my sweet friend needs some new bling! 😉 The beehive hair do…(giggles) a little whimsy is always good.

Yes the little blue box does get a wonderful response around here especially since the appearance of one is very rare. Praying for your surgery and it’s too bad you don’t have a voice activated keyboard and you could just speak your posts into being…

  12. This is over the top fabulous girl! Every detail is perfection as always. I loved seeing the Royal Danish flatware because it is also my Mom’s pattern. I will keep you in my prayers. I know it will be hard for you not to be posting, but I trust that you will be dreaming up more fabulous tablescapes to show us later. Just focus on how wonderful and pain free you will be feeling when it is all behind you.

  13. First off, good luck with the surgery and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. You never have to apologize or worry about taking care of yourself. You must come first always. I don’t know how much I would want to try and post with only one hand while the other shoulder is trying to heal from surgery

    That being said, I NEVER tire of anything Breakfast at Tiffany’s. My favorite movie of Audrey Hepburn’s. Love the table setting and the accessorizing.

  25. Where to begin? It has taken me 2 days pouring over this post, before I could tear myself away! You have really outdone yourself here Alycia! I am blown away with all the things you have found and brought together to create this special table and event. The details, the invitation, the pearls draped over those Breakfast at Tiffany bags, the blinged out gloves and rhinestone chargers, the diamonds tucked everywhere…I could go on and on! You have given us a lot to enjoy while you are on your way to recovery! I am sorry you have had such a rough year, and look forward to your speedy return. The centerpiece is absolutely fabulous with those long drapey hands and the jewelry pouring from them. The blingy mirrors are the perfect focal point…love, love, love them!   30. Stunning and over the top! Thanks, Alycia, this is a great tablescape to hold us over until you are well again. So elegant and creative. Audrey would be flattered and y’all would get along well.

    On a personal note, I have one Tiffany box. Funny, I can’t bring myself to throw it away. It was such a neat surprise to receive it in the mail many years ago. My mother-in-law sent a silver vase engraved for our silver anniversary of 25 years as a gift to my husband and I. Seventeen years later now we will celebrate 42 years in August.

    I have been thinking of you as you prepare for your shoulder surgery. You will be fine and we will be thinking about you and missing you in blogland. You will be prayed for and certainly missed but not forgotten.

  34. Praying that your surgery goes well. I’ve been down and out for almost two months now. Just finished the last, I hope yucky test today. I’m severly anemic, and just getting ready in the morning makes me feel like I’ve run a marathon. So over it! I still miss Audrey Hepburn, and I never miss an opportunity to watch Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Great tablescape! Love the bling arranged on the mirror in the center of the table. So effective!   35. LOVE THIS!! True confession: I have never seen that movie. I know, I know, that needs to be rectified soon so I have been told repeatedly.

    This is such a gorgeous table. My favorite things are the menu, the centerpiece, and the sideboard. All the tiffany blue trimmings and the bling just make this perfect. Must. See. This Movie. Now. In fact, I have Moon River in my head.

    Also: I’m a very early riser so you can be assured that my morning prayers will be on that table before you are.

  38. Hi Alycia – where do I start… yes, the Breakfast at Tiffany’s table has been done a lot… but yours is hands down (or hands up with bling???) the best I’ve ever seen. I love every single detail you put into it. Best wishes as you recover from your surgery. When I was going through chemo, I watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s every single time on the portable DVD player. It is one of my all time favorite movies. And PS – when I came out of my surgery with restrictions on my right (and dominant) arm… it’s amazing how quickly your left will pick up. I never use a black tablecloth, but now you have inspired me, everything shows up so well, without distraction!…and that necklace – to die for!   41. Alycia, this is amazing! I just love all the detail down to how carefully you chose the font for the menus! Everything is soooo pretty, enough to make a girl swoon! I’m so sorry you are having to have shoulder surgery. I wonder if they make something you can talk into that will type the words. I think I might go batty if I had to type with my left hand. It would take me a million years. You will need a left handed mouse…hope you have one. If not, it might be worth it to buy one. Okay, I’ll hush now and leave you alone. I bet you’ve gotten a million and one suggestions already. 🙂 Loved this amazing table…going back to ohh and ahhh over it some more.

  42. Sweet Alycia, you are so amazing! One of my favorite movies EVER! They don’t make movies like that anymore and no one does tables like you. I went gaga over the colors and the mirrors for runners is fantastic. I had to go to the birthday post and look there as well. What an awesome fine and repurpose. I always love it when you use your Royal Danish.
    Did you rob a jewelry store or is your jewel box that well stocked? Don’t answer that publicly, you may be in trouble in both cases.

I have missed you very much–soooooo sorry I took so long off from tablescaping/blogging/being in contact w/ my BNOTP friends…..I took time off w/ Tom’s return from Afghanistan and getting my eldest ensconced in college/through her first year….but definitely missed you. Rest, recuperate, and rehab … and post those tablescapes whenever you feel the urge. You never cease to amaze me with your creativity — and this Breakfast at Tiffany’s is no exception.
