INSPIRATION: This fun “Pretty in Pink, Wicked in Spurs” sign found at Hobby Lobby that works well for Breast Cancer Awareness Month AND the Kansas City American Royal!
It just so happens that the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month coincides with the time frame in which we Kansas Citians are deep into the rootin’ tootin’ goodness of celebrating what decades ago for better or worse branded us a “cow town”: the 2014 Kansas City American Royal. The Royal, which lasts for several weeks and includes a broad range of activities, has been a Kansas City tradition since 1899. But don’t get it twisted…it’s not all ropin’ and overalls and dodgin’ cow patties. There’s a softer side to it, too.
Pink is the color of the day for this luncheon on the deck. The round table for 4 is layered in a full-length ivory tablecloth from LinenTablecloth.com and a cotton candy pink cloth. The ivory color is continued with the stretch chair covers from LinenTablecloth.com.
Each place setting begins with a rough hewn “wooden fence” foundation that I found on clearance at Hobby Lobby. Delicately scalloped ivory plates are from Pier 1 Imports. Soft pink napkins are folded into a pocket for the pink petal-bordered luncheon menu. (My grand faux pas: serving chicken!!! This is CATTLE COUNTRY, baby!!!) The flatware is embellished with tiny florets. I found the perfectly pink wine goblets over the summer at Home Goods. Now for the fun part of this super fem western tablescape: the miniature cowgirl boots are from Hobby Lobby. Notice the flecks of bling on them and how the florets mimic those on the flatware. Each boot is filled with a tiny mixed bouquet, making these the perfect take-home gift for each guest. The larger rusty iron spur surrounding the base of each boot is just a little something extra for fun. I found them at Hobby Lobby, too, and they really help to shore up the “rough” side of the tablescape.
The centerpiece is another picture of the “leather and lace” feel I wanted to bring to the table. Miniature bales of hay in various sizes are positioned with clusters of sweetheart roses and ivy. A “lasso” casually hangs off the side of the “Pretty in Pink, Wicked in Spurs” sign at the base of the largest hay bale. To bring a little height, more color, and lots of texture to the centerpiece, I used a pink glass vase from Michael’s to create a larger bouquet similar to the one used in each miniature boot.
The sitting area on the other side of the deck is very simply adorned for luncheon. The wrought iron furniture is dressed in pale pink rose-covered cushions. The coffee table has nothing on it but a little gift for our breast cancer survivor guest of honor along with a couple of small hay bales and another lasso.

I think I need you to move near me Alycia. A few months ago a group of six friends decided we were going to have ‘diva dinners’ every two to three months, rotating our houses. Well, so far it looks like I have a lot to live up to. The first two were awesome, so when it’s my turn (probably in the Spring) guess who’s brain I’m going to pick?

She’s baaaaack! I have missed reading you Alycia. This tablescape is so adorable. Who knew there were blingy miniature cowboy boots in the world? I loooooove the flower arrangements in the boots. The iron spurs and hay bales balance out the sugar sweet pinks. So fun! This is a blue ribbon winner!

Quite a contrast here between frilly pinks and western paraphernalia which you have managed to pull off with your attention to detail. Pink in the boots is totally outrageous. This was a beautiful and unique table for BCA! You always have the best ideas!! LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about this!! Those boots and spurs paired with the mini roses add contrast and surprise. BC survivors are tough ladies and this table displays both sides of this!! Beautiful job!! Hope you’re feeling better.

How cute is this! I feel like I should have on one of those ruffled skirts and doing a bit of square dancing! This is an adorable chic mix with the feminine pink and cow girl accents! Loving the too cute boots and those wooden fence pieces you used for the dishes! The pink stemware is so pretty- you have such a good eye for things to collect for these tablescapes. That is just the prettiest table, Alycia! You sure scored some good finds at Hobby Lobby. Those boots are simply the cutest and as a vase… adorable! How funny about your chicken faux pas, but I would be happy to have your chicken Caesar salad, along with the rest of the menu. Great job!

Oh, my gosh, this is boot-stompin’ grand! That sign is so fun, and the spurs on the plates are, too. The only spurs I have are real and real dirty, so I could never get them near a table top. 😉 I spied those place “mats” right off. I hate I missed those at HobLob! It is amazing how wonderful the delicate pink flowers and soft fabrics go with the “rough and rugged”. I enjoyed reading about your local traditions while enjoying all your decor items. I get what you mean about the chicken, but women prefer it, I think. You rocked it again, my friend! Yee Hah!

Hi Alycia! I just stopped in for a minute to see what you were up to, and of course you blow my mind with your creativity! I love the spurs and western theme going on in your pretty tablescape. I grew up on a farm and had horses, so had a few pairs of spurs of my own. My parents live in Eastern Washington, right in the heart of cow country, so this tablescape would be a big hit with them! Your tables are always thoughtful and executed beautifully. It’s hard to know where to start, but the flower and bling decorated boots are so cute. I’m in love the pink wine glasses. The gift bag illustration sure hits the mark of the cow town designation with the cowboy sitting against a wagon wheel, probably eating beans and bread, cuz the beef has to go to market!

Yes, we are definitely excited to be living in the KC area right now! WOW! So many great and fun things going on right now! I can’t BELIEVE I fell asleep during the last couple of innings of the ROYALS game last night! OMG..I woke up not long after it was over and quickly checked FB…..I let out a whoop as soon as I saw the score!!! Those guys play scary ball some times, but they sure are awesome to watch right now!!
We can also hope the CHIEFS give us another victory tomorrow!! Wouldn’t that be amazing!

Alycia, this is an amazing table — it’s so very creative!!! You may remember that I LOVE pink, so all these pale pinks make me smile. I especially love the wooden fence “placemats,” the pink wine glasses, the flatware, and the darling boots filled with flower bouquets. Where did you find the cute, mini hay bales?
