Welcome!

Special occasions deserve the imagination and time that go into a well-dressed table. Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One is a teaching blog showcasing tablescapes I have personally designed to truly entertain my guests while making them feel pampered and special.  Many are perfect for at-home entertaining as well as weddings, showers, rehearsal dinners, and engagement parties (I am, after all, a retired wedding designer!).
I vigorously aspire to the late, great poet Maya Angelou’s quote:

“…pursue the things you love doing,
and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you.”

Tablescaping is the thing I absolutely love to do. I hope this blog serves to educate, engage, enlighten, entertain, and inspire you.

I have been following your Facebook page vicariously for many months, but I thought I would write to let you know how much I admire your design and style. Colin Cowie and Preston Bailey have bigger names but you are truly an inspiration to all of us who know that presentation is everything. I have a small company in Los Angeles called “I’ll See To It” and I do special events and provide services for people who know the difference between ordinary and extraordinary.     • I just talked to my Mom, and she corrected me: It was Troy, KS where we visited. Nonetheless, Troy, MO sounds like a wonderful place to visit for shopping!!! It’s possible that my husband and I passed through there on our recent visit to Tennessee. We went through St. Louis which is along I-70, so I’m just guessing. At any rate, beautiful display! I’m sorry to hear about your blog vanishing on you, too, but glad you were able to find it again. I didn’t know that could happen! Now I’m a little freaked out!   73. The progressive dinner looked really fun and the food sounded great. We had a family progressive dinner last Sunday and the extended family wnts to do one this Sunday. I love seeing everyone’s homes. I would love to see yours in person, wouldn’t that be fun! I am going to have to use the ribbons on the plates and chargers, that is so fun, like a present, which giving a dinner really is. We had a surprise 50th birthday party for a friend tonight at our house and it really felt like a present that we were giving. Have a great day!

Progressive dinners ARE fun…I’ve always thought it a good way to see how everyone’s homes are decorated (holidays or not!) and take the pressure off of a single household. I wish my extended family would want to do this…we’d have a blast! Glad you like the idea about the ribbon on the chargers. Just another way to add a little pizzazz, a little color.   136. Alycia, Thanks for your lovely comment on my tablescape!! About the work light, it is a clamp light that just attaches to anything and has a plug. No wiring, or anything required except something to clamp it on to. You can turn the light in any direction to highlight whatever you want also. They have them even at Walmart in the work lighting section. Funny thing is my mom has been using them for years and I never even noticed.

    • Hey there, Lynn!!! I’ve been slacking lately. I had to take a little break from blogging and the computer so that I could focus on getting Christmas stuff put away and then resting my shoulders and back. Now it looks as if my surgery won’t be until mid-March (after my Spring tablescaping classes and wedding workshop), so I’ll have lots of time after that to rest. In the meantime, though, I’m poppin’ pills to quell the pain. I’m taking Meloxicam which is very hard on the stomach. I think I may have developed an ulcer because of it. I am now down to taking it only once or twice a week. The rest of the time I have to just suffer in silence. Well, not exactly silence![?]

      I’m going to get around to visiting blogs later tonight or perhaps tomorrow. I’m busy trying to get ready for another TV appearance on Monday. That kind of came out of the blue, but I really want to do it so I’m piecing it together little by little. Why couldn’t all this have come when I was a younger, healthier, more mobile woman?!??!?!?!?[?]

  153. I just got home from 2 weeks away and walked in and gasped at all of the Christmas decor to put away (and I don’t think mine comes close to rivaling yours!). My oldest daughter came over the next day and she helped for 2 hours and that got me started and YEAH – I am done!

    • Hi, Cherry Kay! I’m comin’ back tomorrow, I think. I started strength training on Friday, and I can already feel the positive effects of it. I was SUPER sore on Saturday, but I’m past that now. I held my class last Tuesday here and made it through that, so I’m feeling like I can start doing a bit more without overdoing it. I definitely want to get my house completely back in order before the holidays. Ramon let me buy a bunch of new clothes and shoes and jewelry, etc. as a reward for being so faithful to my PT regimen, so now I need to rearrange closets and my dressing room. That should be fun!

  203. What a fabulous picnic table! I had seen some ants like that featured at a local grocery store and of course when I popped in (which was right away) they were all gone. This is just stunning and would be the funnest picnic table to sit down to ever!

  209. What a pretty picture of you on your home page! And I love the quote! It does indeed say what you pursue and do! Thanks for your sweet comment about my cotton tablescape. Something you may not know about cotton – the burrs, or hulls, that hold the cotton are sharp as razors and was very painful to those who picked cotton. I’ve read that cotton pickers had bloody fingers at the end of the day. So painful to even think about even after all the years that have passed. So thankful for the invention of a machine to “pick” the cotton. (I never picked cotton. My grandmother showed me “how to pick it” but I was only about six years old and didn’t last long!)

    I’ve been dreaming of a Tartan inspired Tablescape. I’m throwing a Thankful Lunch (we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving but there’s so much to be thankful for and we don’t had the in-laws for Lunch for quite some time so I think I’ll start a tradition :)) and though I’m not daring to go full tartan – the kind that would have a 300 pounds’ Scottish guy cry like a baby 😉 – I’m babying the idea of adding tartan accents.
    Now that Scottish is heading your way to pick you up and take you to the Highlands – they need you there ahahahah.

    I love the sparkle of crystal and chandeliers on a table of red and green.
    Soon as Thanksgiving is over I’m bringing out my Christmas dishes and decorating my old vintage cabinets in my kitchen.

  218. So sorry to hear about your surgery! I got major tennis elbow that has been bothering me since October carrying dishes to do a tablescaping class! I can’t imagine how hard back surgery would be. Tablescaping is heavy lifting!!! Take it easy and get better soon!!
