Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Just as suddenly as I reappeared last week, I will disappear again after this week as I prepare to go under the knife on Friday. I am both terrified and relieved to have it finally happening. My shoulders have been the source of much pain and anguish for a long time now, and I’m ready to get the first one fixed. My understanding is that using my right arm will be all but impossible for at least 2 months, so I’ll be on the computer only when in the mood to hunt & peck with my left hand. I hope that you will once again forgive my spotty appearances as I go about the business of physical therapy on my way to recovery. I have several tablescapes that I created back in early Spring (including this one) in anticipation of this down time, and I will hopefully be able to post those before summer’s fast-approaching end.

Yes, I know the Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme has been done and done and done again. I’m gonna take a pass at it, too, just for kicks. OK? I think it would make a really fun theme for a bridal shower, bridal luncheon, special ladies brunch, birthday brunch (especially a milestone birthday!), or even a mid-morning engagement party!

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - full dining roomThe table is draped in a sleek black 90″ x 132″ tablecloth from LinenTablecloth.com for the sophisticated look of the proverbial little black dress.

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany'sThis rectangular dining table is set for 6, but would look just as great set on a longer rectangular table for multiple guests or even a round table.

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's place settingI kept each place setting sleek and simple. The white chargers are rimmed in rhinestones. (I wonder if they come with real diamonds at Tiffany’s? 😉 ) The china is very simply adorned Noritake “Spectrum”.

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Menu collageThe custom-created menus are white paper on black and Tiffany blue card stock embellished with a small gemstone. I included an image of a tiara to mimic the one worn by Holly Golightly in this famous poster. Also notice the print on the menu. I chose two print fonts that closely match those on the poster!

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Flatware, napkin, rim shot, stemware collageMikasa “Jamestown Platinum” stemware and International Silver “Royal Danish” flatware work well with the place setting. (Get it? Royal Danish flatware? As in Holly Golightly eating a Danish pastry for her breakfast at Tiffany’s??? 🙂 ) A sleek black napkin is folded twice lengthwise and tucked around the charger beneath the dinner plate.

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Breakfast Pastry, Croissant collageWhat else to serve but breakfast pastries? That was Holly’s breakfast of choice!

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - centerpieceA blinged out breakfast or brunch calls for a very creative, upscale, but still lighthearted centerpiece.

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Hand collage I

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Hand collage IIThe centerpiece is created using two identical black rectangular mirrors with tiers of rhinestones from Hobby Lobby. (Also used HERE in the post “Happy Birthday, Barf!”) Just as a jewelry store like Tiffany’s might, I used these black hand display pieces (Michael’s) holding jewelry from my own collection including a Tiffany bracelet and necklace. (TIP: If you’re a bride who is gifting her bridesmaids with a little something-something from Tiffany’s to wear in the wedding, this would be a fun way to display it during brunch and then let them know they can pick theirs off the display afterwards!)

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Roses, mirrored vase collageWhile promotional posters showed a red rose on Holly’s table, I decided to go with clusters of petite white roses in sleek mirrored vases. The arrangements are festooned with big, clunky bursts of bling.

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Votive, runner corner collageHere you can better see the tiered mirror’s edge. Simple votive candles demurely reflect on each mirror.

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Goodie bagsWhat’s a bridesmaid’s brunch without goodie bags??? 🙂

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Goodie bag collageThese Breakfast At Tiffany’s nylon bags were found at Michael’s in the fun stuff aisle! Each bag is adorned with lots of “pearls” spilling out along the side.

The buffet behind the dining table holds the goodie bags and displays fun things from Tiffany's that Holly might wear including a fabulous tiara, black shades, pearls, and those famous opera gloves - Rings, gloves, Tiffany pouch collageThe buffet behind the dining table holds the goodie bags and displays fun things that Holly might wear including Tiffany’s jewelry, a fabulous tiara, black shades, pearls, and those famous opera gloves.

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany'sA little something extra to brighten up the space and make it very girly is a bust form in a little black dress and flirty black feather boa. (Thanks to my friend, Barbara, for the boa and the rhinestone-flecked gloves shown here!)

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - floral head

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Floral head bling, tiara collage

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Necklace collageI created a fun centerpiece using a bust form for a Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon a couple of years ago. This is the same basic concept, but a little more playful. The floral head here has chunky bling shooting out of it and boasts another tiara. I created a replica of Holly’s famous pearl necklace using faux pearl strands from Hobby Lobby. I simply quadrupled them and tied them with a gossamer ribbon at the nape of the neck. I then added a huge brooch to the front of the necklace. Not exactly like Holly’s, but a fun play on it!

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Candelabra, bobeche, Tiffany logo collageThe promotional poster used as my inspiration piece shows Holly gazing wistfully into the Tiffany’s display window. Hanging in the window are beautiful bling-laden candlelight chandeliers. The play on that here is this 5-lite silver candelabra with bling bobeches.

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's tea cart

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Teacart spoons, cups, pastries collageCoffee and an assortment of breakfast pastries are served from the vintage tea cart in a corner of the room.

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - Tea cart box, brooch, Tiffany's logo collageWhat girl doesn’t suck all the air out of the room when she sees this famous blue box? 😉

As a parting gift, I leave you with my original idea for the bust form. It’s silly, really, but I created it in a weak moment and thought you might get a good laugh out of it.

Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One - Breakfast at Tiffany's - "Bee hive hairdo" collageIt was going to represent the “beehive hairdo” Holly wore. Get it? Bee hive? Lame, I know. I just covered a beehive in wired pearls and bling. Don’t hate! 🙂

OK…so that’s it. I’m outta here! See you after the snip-snip!

  1. There is nothing I like more than big burst of chunky bling and where on earth did you get a bust from? And just think you did all of this with a sore shoulder! You’re amazing. Sending you hugs and healing wishes. I’ve had the surgery and I feel your pain.

  2. Gorgeous and classic! I’m a pearl girl, but do love me some bling. And agreed, what’s not to love when there’s a Tiffany blue box? I’m thinking that along with the macrons, another of those little blue boxes would definitely speed your recovery. Ramon…my sweet friend needs some new bling! 😉 The beehive hair do…(giggles) a little whimsy is always good.
    xx

  3. Hi Alycia-
What fun this is! I love those bags with pearls hanging out of them. You’re such a designer! This is a fun theme and I love the bling!
I hope the surgery will get you on track for much better days.

  4. Ha! No hate here. I really enjoyed this setting and the theme and all the bling. So much fun. Yes the little blue box does get a wonderful response around here especially since the appearance of one is very rare. Praying for your surgery and it’s too bad you don’t have a voice activated keyboard and you could just speak your posts into being…
    Blessings on your head!!

Just focus on how wonderful and pain free you will be feeling when it is all behind you.

    Big Hugs,

  8. First off, good luck with the surgery and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. You never have to apologize or worry about taking care of yourself. You must come first always. I don’t know how much I would want to try and post with only one hand while the other shoulder is trying to heal from surgery

That being said, I NEVER tire of anything Breakfast at Tiffany’s. My favorite movie of Audrey Hepburn’s. Love the table setting and the accessorizing.

    Cynthia

Wishing you a speedy recovery Alycia.
    Hugs, Gee

  10. Ha..you are so very funny with the “beehive”….and would I go away with a Tiffany box filled with diamonds if I came to that breakfast…or would I be like Audrey and just have to lust at them through a window with my breakfast in hand….the table is beyond gorgeous!…so much bling and creativity!..You create the best menu cards!!…truly!..

I will be thinking and praying for your complete recovery!!…I know how much pain you have been in and finally you will be getting relief soon!…xoxoxo!!

  11. Well, your site won’t accept my wordpress login anymore. I wrote you another great comment, but it is gone now.

I hope your surgery goes well, and that you will be able to keep us posted.

  12. Your creativity inspires me, Alycia. Love the dress form with the flowers and the beehive. Beautiful table full of gorgeous details. A+++++
Take care of yourself. Hope all goes well with the surgery and a speedy recovery.

  13. Oh my, Alycia…you’ve really thought of everything for this beautiful tablescape! That luscious teal color makes my ♥ skip a beat each time I see it. The black, floor length tablecloth is soooo dramatic & all your sparkles just set the mood perfectly.

Good luck with your surgery on Friday. I have you on my prayer list!!!

  14. WOW!!! Luv it all, incl. the original “beehive”. Tiffany blue is one of my favorite colors, as well. Will miss U! Prayers for a speedy recovery.

  15. We will all be praying for you and after the months of therapy you’ll say why did I wait so long. I think Tiffany blue will be a nice soothing color for the boudoir since I’ll never own a bag.

  16. Where to begin? It has taken me 2 days pouring over this post, before I could tear myself away! You have really outdone yourself here Alycia! I am blown away with all the things you have found and brought together to create this special table and event. The details, the invitation, the pearls draped over those Breakfast at Tiffany bags, the blinged out gloves and rhinestone chargers, the diamonds tucked everywhere…I could go on and on! You have given us a lot to enjoy while you are on your way to recovery! I am sorry you have had such a rough year, and look forward to your speedy return. You will be missed my dear, and we will all be thinking of you and wishing you well!
    Jenna

  17. Oh my Alycia, once again you totally outdid yourself! What a party you threw. I just can’t get over all the wonderful details and fabulous bling. The centerpiece is absolutely fabulous with those long drapey hands and the jewelry pouring from them. The blingy mirrors are the perfect focal point…love, love, love them! The bust form is stunning and the beehive hairdo is too cute! Everyone that attends your parties must be oohing and ahhing at every turn.
I will be praying for you sweet friend as you undergo your surgery and for a speedy recovery. I know you will be happy to have this behind you. ((Big hugs)) are sent to you. xo

  18. What fun!! My granddaughter is sitting here looking at this with me and we have watched every Audrey movie together over the years! She even did a post called “All Audrey, All of the Time” for Tablescape Times Three, when we were blogging together. Love all of the pearls, the little black dress, the sunglasses and the Tiffany blue. Out of the park home-run!!! Good luck with the surgery, my friend. Hurry back!

  19. So love this post, but am thinking of you! I really hope this surgery is the answer to your pain. It will be hard to have your amazing creativity out of commission for so long. I can only think of the creativity you will have stowed up and what awesome things are headed our way – once you are in the pink. Sending prayers your way for a speedy recovery.

    Love,

    Alma, The Tablescaper

  20. STUNNING, AMAZING, SPECTACULAR…and many more capital words for this beautiful and elegant tablescape, dear Alycia!!! I feel like putting on a lovely black dress and pearls and make a french twist with my hair and going to knock at your door…saying, excuse me lady, here I am, please give me the best seat in that gorgeous table, as I am taking the centerpiece home when the lovely evening is over!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks hon for sharing your talents with us…you are unique and it’s what I love about you! Hope you’re feeling better in your Little heart too.
    Big hugs,
    FABBY

  21. Stunning and over the top! Thanks, Alycia, this is a great tablescape to hold us over until you are well again. So elegant and creative. Audrey would be flattered and y’all would get along well.

On a personal note, I have one Tiffany box. Funny, I can’t bring myself to throw it away. It was such a neat surprise to receive it in the mail many years ago. My mother-in-law sent a silver vase engraved for our silver anniversary of 25 years as a gift to my husband and I. Seventeen years later now we will celebrate 42 years in August.

I have been thinking of you as you prepare for your shoulder surgery. You will be fine and we will be thinking about you and missing you in blogland. You will be prayed for and certainly missed but not forgotten.

  22. Wow, what an elegant table…love the little bit of very clever whimsy with the beehive hairdo!
Best wishes for successful surgery and a speedy recovery.

  23. I know my invitation was lost in the mail!!! I would have worn my little ol black dress and found some paste jewelry… I’d have been quiet. LOL.. I love this table. the centerpiece is so fabulous!!! I want the little turquoise box on the sideboard!! Alycia, this is just fabulous. Praying for you!!! Hoping this surgery brings you much relief and that your rehab is better and easier and faster than expected.. xo marlis

  24. Praying that your surgery goes well. I’ve been down and out for almost two months now. Just finished the last, I hope yucky test today. I’m severly anemic, and just getting ready in the morning makes me feel like I’ve run a marathon. So over it! I still miss Audrey Hepburn, and I never miss an opportunity to watch Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Great tablescape! Love the bling arranged on the mirror in the center of the table. So effective! Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

  25. LOVE THIS!! True confession: I have never seen that movie. I know, I know, that needs to be rectified soon so I have been told repeatedly.

This is such a gorgeous table. My favorite things are the menu, the centerpiece, and the sideboard. All the tiffany blue trimmings and the bling just make this perfect. Must. See. This Movie. Now. In fact, I have Moon River in my head.

Also: I’m a very early riser so you can be assured that my morning prayers will be on that table before you are.

  26. Alycia~ You never fail to appoint! Your blinged out centerpiece and bejeweled bust is over the top fabulous! Love the gift bags with pearls spilling out and your friend’s gloves are smashing! Wishing you a speedy recovery, if not pain free then with a minimal amount of pain. I know you’ll be thinking up all manner of creative tables while you’re on the mend!

  27. Hi Alycia – where do I start… yes, the Breakfast at Tiffany’s table has been done a lot… but yours is hands down (or hands up with bling???) the best I’ve ever seen. I love every single detail you put into it. Best wishes as you recover from your surgery. When I was going through chemo, I watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s every single time on the portable DVD player. It is one of my all time favorite movies. And PS – when I came out of my surgery with restrictions on my right (and dominant) arm… it’s amazing how quickly your left will pick up. I even taught myself how to paint left handed and can cut a mean ceiling. Big prayers and best wishes and big hugs. Holly @ coconutheadsurvivalguide

  28. YIKES, where do I begin? I love the theme and all the jewels, especially how you have them displayed on the “hands”….all of the sparkle is so inviting! I never use a black tablecloth, but now you have inspired me, everything shows up so well, without distraction!…and that necklace – to die for! Best wishes with surgery…something makes me think you will have no problem pecking away with the other hand on your computer – nothing holds a blogger back!

  29. Alycia, this is awesome! You really did it up right! and the inspiration is timeless…who can ever get tired of Breakfast at Tiffany’s?? I surely will be thinking about you as you get all fixed up on Fri and as you recover. I hope we can hear some updates from your recovery…
    much love dear friend..
    Mona

  30. Alycia, this is amazing! I just love all the detail down to how carefully you chose the font for the menus! Everything is soooo pretty, enough to make a girl swoon! I’m so sorry you are having to have shoulder surgery. I wonder if they make something you can talk into that will type the words. I think I might go batty if I had to type with my left hand. It would take me a million years. You will need a left handed mouse…hope you have one. If not, it might be worth it to buy one. Okay, I’ll hush now and leave you alone. I bet you’ve gotten a million and one suggestions already. 🙂 Loved this amazing table…going back to ohh and ahhh over it some more.

  31. Sweet Alycia, you are so amazing! One of my favorite movies EVER! They don’t make movies like that anymore and no one does tables like you. I went gaga over the colors and the mirrors for runners is fantastic. I had to go to the birthday post and look there as well. What an awesome fine and repurpose. I always love it when you use your Royal Danish.
Did you rob a jewelry store or is your jewel box that well stocked? Don’t answer that publicly, you may be in trouble in both cases.
My prayers are with you for a successful surgery and a quick recovery.
Over all, take care of yourself.
    Prayers and hugs, Ginger

  32. I have missed you very much–soooooo sorry I took so long off from tablescaping/blogging/being in contact w/ my BNOTP friends…..I took time off w/ Tom’s return from Afghanistan and getting my eldest ensconced in college/through her first year….but definitely missed you. I love this table…..the theme may have been covered before, but not in the amazingly elegant and creative way that you have done it here…..awesomeness!!! Love the bling!!! Love/hugs/blessings, Lana (Ps I still haven’t blogged yet in like a year, but hopefully will soon)

  33. What can I say? Simply divine da-ling! I couldn’t take my eyes off the table. Luv the centerpiece with all the bling – wow! So elegant and beautiful. You did a great job.

Praying for you to have a quick recovery!!

    Blessings,
    Carol

  34. Alycia, What a fun and yet glamorous tablescape. Love all of the bling, especially the stones around the mirrors and that elegantly dressed bust. (Tthe “beehive” on the bust is so clever, and It gave me a great chuckle.) What a perfect cart for this setting. I can just see Holly, removing one of her gloves to pick up a croissant from the cart. Well done! I have you in my prayers, and I’m sending you a cyber hug. laurie

  35. Alycia, you’ve been on my mind and in my prayers. I hope your surgery went well and that your recovery will be as quick as possible — and complete! Rest, recuperate, and rehab … and post those tablescapes whenever you feel the urge. You never cease to amaze me with your creativity — and this Breakfast at Tiffany’s is no exception. How could I possibly have anything but rave reviews for a tablescape dripping with jewels?! Great ideas here!

  36. Alycia…I’m just catching this now. I do hope your surgery was very successful and that you are already making and amazing recovery!! [hugs] Sending up a prayer for you now.
I love this table!! You always amaze me. Everything is perfect about it. I don’t know that I can pull out just a few things to mention. As I scrolled through the photos I kept thinking that, that one, was fabulous…and on and on it went. This is the epitome of creativity. You rocked it girl!!
Hope your big guy is treating you like a queen. So sorry you had to have the surgery…

  37. Hi, I hope this email finds you well! its been just about a month since your surgery and I have been wondering how your recovery is going? I hope you have been able to enjoy the cool summer we had been having and not cooped up in the house. I’m not going to write much so you don’t get worn out pecking at the key board so I’m going to let you go and wish you a fast and pain free recovery.

Remember I’m available to help you play with table scaping to lighten your spirit!!! Sincerely,

    Carla Marchand

  38. So many great things to see here. I love your tea cart. Mine has booze on it maybe I should switch it out for pastries!! Love the the Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme. Can you believe I’ve never seen that movie. I’m so lame.
