Thanksgiving will once again this year be a sparsely attended event at our home. While I’m a firm believer in “the more, the merrier”, I know that’s not possible and can appreciate and embrace a smaller group. So “bountiful simplicity” will be the name of the game for 2021.
This tablescape concept began with the purchase of the white pumpkin-embossed runner from Home Goods I bought a few weeks ago. The pickings are slim this year, so I felt fortunate to find something I liked. The centerpiece is created with a long, narrow wooden “trough” from Nell Hill’s filled with a variety of pumpkins, gourds, fruits, faux acorns, greenery, and leaves topped off with a pair of antlers. A six-pack of 24″ metal case candles in clear glass holders runs along both sides. With such a low centerpiece, I felt it necessary to add height but still be mindful of being able to see across the table.
I was SO excited to find these great leather look chargers at Hobby Lobby this season!!! I used them once already this season for “Hey, Pumpkin!“, and they will come in handy for lots of future fall and winter tablescapes. The mustard yellow dinner plates, oak leaf/acorn plates, and plaid salad plates are all from Pier 1, purchased over the last 10+ years. The delicate cream soup bowl with saucer (having homemade mushroom soup for a starter!) is from Nell Hill’s in Kansas City, MO. Hampton Silversmith “Patriot” flatware, napkins from LinenTablecloth.com, and amber bubble glass stemware from TJ Maxx round out the place settings. Lithe seed pearl wreaths add texture, color, form, and a little fun.
I was determined this year to reuse, recycle and reduce waste when it came to decorating. While I bought LOTS of pumpkins and gourds at the start of the fall season, I’ve made sure to use them in various ways inside and out. A quick dip in a weak Clorox bath when I first brought them home has kept them going strong. See how I first used these pumpkins as the backdrop for my 2021 Halloween entry, “The Spider & the Fly“. Deep six the spiders and flies, do a little artful rearranging, add some wheat sheaves, and it’s all ready for Thanksgiving! (PSA: If you know someone nearby who has a farm, ask them if they’d like to have your pumpkins after the season to feed their livestock. If not, consider chopping them up and scattering them in an uninhabited wooded area for wildlife such as foxes, deer, squirrels, and other animals who often find it difficult to source food in the winter. Full circle use!)
The small china cabinet is all decked out with its usual aluminum wine and champagne coolers that are further embellished with berry branches, pumpkins, and a big moss ball.

Alicia, Your tablescape is stunning! I love the allee of tall candles down your table. They caught my eye immediately. I am not familiar with metal case candles and will have to look that up. Your dough bowl full of fall elements of gourds, pumpkins, leaves, greenery, acorns, and antlers adds pleasing colors and texture. Your china cabinet adorned with fresh pumpkins accents your table perfectly. I am impressed with how you styled the top of the cabinet, too. That is a great idea to add height and interest for decoration as well as store those bigger pieces at the same time. I might have to steal that idea.
Your plate stack is beautiful and pulls all your table elements together perfectly.

Alycia, this is gorgeous! Those candles really add an elegant wow factor to your fall long and low centerpiece trough of pumpkins, fruit and fall things. The plate stacks adorned with the little wreaths look so pretty and I love your bountiful side board! What a great idea to cut up the pumpkins and put them out for the animals. I did not give my pumpkins a bleach treatment and sadly we lost most all of them to rot…I won’t be lazy about that next year! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving enjoying this beautiful table!

Your table is lovely and I have to agree with the other comments on the 24 inch tapers! They caught my eye immediately. I LOVE THEM!!!!!! They are going on my wish list for sure. Your sideboard is right out of a magazine…or certainly could be, and thanks for the tip of the light Clorox bath idea…. to preserve these pumpkins and gourds.

Yet again you have bowled me over here. I didn’t even know that they made 24 inch candles. These just take your table over the top! What a brilliant idea to create candlelight and ambience while not blocking across the table views. In looking at the stack of plates here, I am asking myself why I don’t have more floral plates. Why do I just have solids and geometric patterns? This is not a rhetorical question. Why?! This is gorgeous!

I love the abundance of natural elements you used! It truly feels bountiful, and I’m sure all the creatures will be glad when they get their chance at it. On the table front, the mustard yellow color appearing in all its guises in the dishware and linens is a pretty color. And those candles! Such fun drama! I’m sure I’d burn the house down, lol!!! Oh wow, I love those tall candles! What an elegant vibe they bring to your tablescape! Like you, I love using antlers this time of year. It is so interesting, when deer don’t really begin to shed those antlers until early winter but some of us are just drawn to them and their unique shapes and using them in our fall decorating. The pair you have are so lovely, I want to find some additional antlers to use for fall and Christmas. The combination of plates is fabulous! Those plaid ones are great paired with those with the fall leaves. Homemade mushroom soup sounds just perfect! Bring it on! I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Alycia, that low table centerpiece with 24″ tapers is absolutely stunning! Please tell me more about 24″ metal-cased candles?! Are they battery-operated? Just gorgeous! Alycia, my mom always used to say “go big or go home”, and that’s what I thought when I saw your table! Those tall candlesticks are so dramatic, and I’ve never seen such large antlers either! Together they make a bold (and fabulous!) statement on your tablescape. I also love the bounty of pumpkins and gourds on your sideboard. The plaid and acorn/oak leaf plates look great together.
